Grigoris Maravelias
He is a graduate (2004) of the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens, with postgraduate studies in Laser Technology (University of Crete) and work experience as a laboratory laser technician (2007-2009). He received his PhD from the Department of Physics of the University of Crete (2010-2014) and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Czech Republic (2014-2016), and in Chile (2017). Since 2017 he has been working at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (2017-present) and at the National Observatory of Athens (2018-present).
His research interests include massive stars and stellar evolution, as well as applications of machine learning to astrophysical problems. As an observer, he has direct experience of dozens of nights of observation on small and large optical telescopes (6m) in various countries, and has also had a number of successful proposals on the largest telescopes in the world. He has extensive experience in supporting and training for synergies between professional and amateur astronomers/citizen scientists, and in the management/networking of the two communities.
He has supported student work and has educational work in schools on astrophysics and machine learning. He is an active member of the amateur community since 1999, having contributed to a number of activities for the public and the community.
