On Monday, 16th of June, the Summer School for Astrostatistics in Crete welcomes the participants of its 5th iteration! From 16 to 20 of June, 33 participants, 5 tutors and 3 teaching assistants with gather at the Department of Physics (University of Crete). They will be trained on a number of topics, ranging from classical to Bayesian statistics, from Gaussian processes to Markov Chain Monte Carlo, from clustering and classification to regression, from machine- and deep-learning to GPU parallelization.
The aim of the School is to bridge the gap between theory and practice and to help participants advance from a beginner level to a more advanced one. That’s why there is a strong focus on hands-on workshops, using real astronomical data and problems. Emphasis is placed on developing programming skills that will serve as a quick reference for their future work, while also fostering relationships among participants and cultivating future collaborations.
