Empowering Future Astronomers: Supporting the 2023 Astrostatistics Summer School in Crete

In the context of the continuous effort to promote scientific knowledge, empower students and support the professional community, PeriAstron proudly supported the implementation of the Astrostatistics Summer School 2023 in Crete. An initiative hosted by the astronomy team of the Physics Department of the University of Crete in collaboration with the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH).

About the Summer School

The Astrostatistics Summer School in Crete has been held since 2019, and 2023 marked its third implementation. It aims to train advanced undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students as well as young researchers in the use of the most common statistical tools for the analysis of a variety of astronomical data. The uniqueness of this particular school is that it is addressed almost exclusively to astronomy students and researchers, as well as the way it is conducted, using the latest advancements in the field. Both theory acquisition and skill development is done through workshops where students and researchers understand, develop and apply codes to astronomical data, with the ultimate goal of being able to use this material they build as a quick reference for their day-to-day work. It is noteworthy that all the material is open and accessible to everyone.

PeriAstron's Commitment to Education and Research

Supporting the Summer School is consistent with our broader commitment to education, research and the promotion of scientific exploration. By supporting such events, we seek to empower the next generation of astronomers, helping to create opportunities for the further development of students and young researchers.
